Portulaca gilliesii

portulaca gilliesii from Hongkong

Portulaca gilliesii

The only plant that I bought from Hongkong last year that was propagated and really thrived. Out of 7 plants, this portulaca was the only one that I was able to multiply and was able to sell a couple of propagations and shared to other hobbyists as well.

She is one  of my favorites. When I first saw the post on fb pages, I fell inlove and wish one day I could have this plant. I tried to ask online but, yay, it was too pricey. I heard they paid 800 pesos for only a branch of that said plant and I said to myself, I cant afford such amount.

The Hongkong trip was the answer. I never thought I could find lots of plats at Prince Eduard flower market in Hongkong. I wish I had the whole day, but I only have a couple of minutes to enjoy and embrace the beauties before my very eyes. There was no time and I just grabbed a few pieces that I could afford.
this plant didnt survive

out of four plants; only the truncata survived

Looking forward for the Thailand trip on November 1-7, 2018. Hope I can have cool plants hauls and be able to propagate as well.

Edithcolea grandis

Edithcolea grandis plant
Edithcolea grandis bud

Hmmmmm, its taking a while for me to blog and tell a story here. Its been a while and I guess I may have ran out of creative juices (waahahhaha I do hope) to so, but Im trying to piga ( its a tagalog/bisaya word which means extract) here.

My first stinky ( smelly plant) Edithcolea grandis. There are lots of wierd stuff in the cacti and succulents world, and one of those are the stinkies. Whahahaha, wonder why even with the foulest smell people have gone gaga with stinkies these days. Wonder no more for they may smell unpleasant and like a dead rat, its one of the unique, colorful and beautiful flowers I have ever seen. This edithcolea grandis was on of my firsts. It doesnt look that great since it has spiny green to reddish body, greenish when its put under the shade but looks reddish when its placed under full sun.

Tired of the I'm back phrase

Yohooo!!!!

Tired of I'm back phrase, but like it or not, I'm just really back. so really back to hopefully the thing called blogging. Wahaaahah, seriously, I'm back!

Hmmmmmm, I've been busy and all gardening with calloused and haggard looking hands with all those very minor cactus related wounds and itchy marks and the like. But, I think alongside this cactus and succulent addiction, might as well make use of these memorable things on this blog.

Each step of the way will be covered but I guess I'll have to recall those times when I first started it, and it would be such a tedious task, I dont have that photographic memory to start with but I'll try my very very best.

My first succulent plant

Lilies of the Field
I like that sound and I love the feel of those sounds. And to me it sounds good to name a garden like that. Its sounds peculiar and seldom used. The first time I heard it, I fell in love. Awestruck of the verse in the Bible, Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; ... Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they spin. Two verses earlier at Matthew 6:26 Jesus told his followers not to worry about food, because even the birds are provided for by God. I feel like a lily, how I grow and how God has been taking care of me through all these years acknowledging that aprt from God I am nothing.

Today, I try to look back hmmmm  guess a decade ago, when  first started collecting cacti. Now facebook reminded me it was not a decade ago but 12 years ago. I though I started collecting 2006. Good there was record when I posted the picture.

My first cacti collection
Pleased to introduce to you my first collection, the flapjack succulent, that was when I wasin Cagayan de oro and was living in a boarding house who allowed us to care for plants. Now, this plant is somewhere out there or died a natural death.

Common name : Flap Jack
Scientific name: kalanchoe lucaie
Plant Care: Water kalanchoe only when the soil is dry. When watering indoor plants, allow the pot to drain completely before replacing the plant on its drainage saucer. Never overwater, as kalanchoe, like all succulents, is prone to rot in soggy soil. Water kalanchoe sparingly during the winter months. Outdoors, kalanchoe plants do well in full sunlight or light shade. Indoor plants perform best in bright light. However, avoid direct light during the summer months, as too much intense light may scorch the plant.

How about you?
Do you have a cactus and succulents collection?
Do you plan to have ?
Why not? Its fun and its a great stress reliever.

Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food"; and it was so.
Genesis 1 :29-30

Have a nice day an enjoy!
See you on my next post!
